More Benefits for Women in the Workplace

The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) has recently approved the guidelines for the special two-month leave for women who have undergone surgery for a gynaecological disorder.
The guidelines were approved to provide women better reproductive health care. In a statement, Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said that she has already issued the Department Order No. 112-22 containing the guidelines for the special leave that will augment existing provision of the Labor Code.

The new Department Order is in line with the provision of Section 18 of the Republic Act 9710 or the Magna Carta for Women, which aims to provide better work opportunities for women in society.
The two month leave is an addition to the leave privileges of women under existing laws. The new provision covers women worker in the private sector, regardless of their civil status, who have been employed for at least six months before the surgery. Full wage will be given to women who will avail of the benefit in the duration of the leave.

“It may be used for the period covering the surgery until recuperation. Absence incurred from the pre-surgery period, as well as those in excess of the two months allowed under the special leave benefit, may be charged against the employee's earned leave credits," she said.
