June 20 is a Special Non-working Holiday

Malacanang declared June 20 as a special non-working holiday to commemorate Jose Rizal's 150th birthday.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines requested to move the holiday from Sunday, June 19 (Rizal's birthday) to June 20, Monday.

According to Proclamation No. 154, the holiday was moved to "to give all Filipinos the opportunity to commemorate Rizal's patriotic deeds and sacrifices for the country, rekindle their admiration and respect for him, and to celebrate this milestone with appropriate ceremonies”.

We have yet to hear of government-sponsored events that will be held to commemorate Rizal on his birthday. Stay tuned and get the latest updates on the holiday.
